Q. Does the Navigator work with ezRoute Pro 10, the current version we have?
A. No. ezRoute Pro 11.0 includes the export utility required by the Navigator. The upgrade to ezRoute Pro 11.0 is free.
Q. Our company has many people using ezRoute, it takes a long time for the data to appear in the Executive Manager. How will the Navigator performance compare?
A. The Navigator was created precisely for your situation. The Executive Manager (as well as the other applications) should run at lightning speed when compared to running them in ezRoute. Running the tasks on a server with network overhead and sharing resources with other users is what often causes the slow-down.
Q. How do I know if the information in the Navigator is current? How is the data updated?
A. When you log into ezRoute, you create a schedule indicating when you want data updates to occur, typically at night. Each time you log into the Navigator, it unzips the data from your most recent update.
Q. We have multiple users in ezRoute. Does each user create his/her own update schedule?
A. Yes. The update also includes preferences and favorites, so each person creates their own update schedule. For security purposes, only established users in ezRoute are allowed to login to the Navigator.
Q. Can the Navigator be installed on the same drive as ezRoute?
A. No. The Navigator must reside on a different drive than ezRoute. In most cases, ezRoute is installed on a mapped network drive, and the Navigator is installed on the local C: drive.
Q. Our company has only one computer, and that is where ezRoute is already installed. What options do we have?
A. If ezRoute is already installed on the local C: drive, the Navigator may be installed on a second local hard drive, an external hard drive, or a USB flash drive.
Q. Our office has no server, but rather uses a workgroup to connect two computers together. Can the Navigator installation on my C: drive be shared with other computers?
A. Sharing a C: drive is generally viewed as a poor idea (a breach of security) by IT professionals. Sharing the Navigator application goes against its concept and would defeat its main purpose.
Q. If we don’t experience the dramatic increase in speed, what would be the most likely cause?
A. Many anti-virus programs have “real-time protection” features in which each file is scanned when it is opened.
We recommend excluding the Navigator’s folders from the “auto protect” function but including them in the routine virus scan when the computer is updated or unattended, typically after hours.
